Matching the fervor of baseball season in the US, Cricket is the most watched sport in South Asia, garnering over 2.5 billion spectators. The 13th edition took place in Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India this year.
Cricket originated in England and was established as an official sport in the 18th century. The sport was then introduced to South Asia by English sailors and traders, specifically those of the East India Company. One of the first public figures in south-asian cricket history was Indian prince Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji (1872-1933), who batted while studying at Cambridge University.
While India and Pakistan have had a rocky political relationship since gaining independence from British rule, they have also been well known as major sports rivals. Out of the 206 times the two national teams have competed throughout cricket history, India has won 74 games while Pakistan has won 88. In their long awaited match on October 14, India won by 192/3 to 191.
The final match of the tournament is set to be held on November 19.
